WORLD ARABIC LANGUAGE DAY 2022.

On 18th December 1973, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted resolution A/RES/3190 (XXVIII) introducing Arabic as the sixth official language of the  United Nations, the other languages being Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. In 2010, UNESCO, an agency of the United Nations established December 18th  as Arabic Language Day to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the organization. World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18th December since 2012. The date coincides with the day in 1973 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted Arabic as the sixth official language of the organization. Arabic is spoken by more than 400 million people. Arabic is one of the most widely used languages around the world and fundamental to multilateral cooperation at the United Nations. As one of the most widely spoken languages, it serves as one of pillars of the cultural diversity of humanity. Arabic is primarily spoken in the MENA region of the world, that is, Middle - East North Africa region. There are 25 countries that claim Arabic as an official or co - official language, these countries are; Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Tanzania, Yemen, Tunisia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Kuwait, Chad, Djibouti, Qatar, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Mauritania, lraq, Egypt, Comoros, Somalia, Eritrea, Libya and Palestine. And then there are 6 sovereign states in which Arabic is a national language or recognized minority language, these countries are; lran, Turkey, Niger, Senegal, Mali, and Cyprus. Arabic is the 5th most spoken language in the world. Arabic has 28 letters in the alphabet. Arabic is the declared language of lslam and there are approximately 1.6 billion Muslims that use Arabic to read the Quran. Languages makes the world more beautiful, and every language has rich connotations. It is not only a bond of cultural exchanges and mutual learning, a tool of communication, but also a key to appreciate the charm of different cultures. The theme of this year's World Arabic Language Day 2022 is: "The Contribution of the Arabic Language to Human Civilization and Culture".
