Today the 18th of December 2021 marks the lnternational Migrants Day. The lnternational Migrants Day has been observed since the year 2000. The day was designated by the General Assembly of the united nations. On 4th December 2000, the General Assembly, taking into account the large, increasing number of migrants in the world, established December 18th as the celebration day. The date was precisely chosen as it was on 18th December 1990, the General Assembly had adopted the international convention for the protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families (resolution A/RES/ 55/93). Each year on December 18th, the united nations (UN) through the united nations (UN) related agency, lnternational Organization for Migration (IOM) uses the international migrants day to highlight the contributions made by the roughly 281million migrants, including more than 59million internally displaced persons by the end of 2021, and the challenges they face. The day acknowledges the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of migrants around the world.
The theme for this year's lnternational Migrants day 2021 is "harnessing the potential of human mobility". The lnternational Migrants Day is aim to raise awareness about the challenges and difficulties of international migrants. Migrants contributes their knowledge, skills, networks to their host communities to build stronger, and more resilient communities. The global social and economic landscape can be shaped through impactful decisions to address the challenges and opportunities presented by global mobility and people on the move. International migrants day is celebrated on 18th December to raise awareness about the protection of migrants and refugees around the world. And also to raise awareness about the social and economic conditions as well as circumstances of migrants. According to united nations (UN) in 2020, there were around 281million foreign migrants, accounting for 3.6% of the world population.
The 2030 agenda promises to leave no one behind, this must include every migrant, protecting their rights and dignity means responding to humanitarian needs and advancing sustainable development. Fundamentally, this is about defending our common humanity through solidarity in action. Like many who find themselves living on the margins of society, migrants are often stranded without income or shelter. They faced increased risks of trafficking, homelessness and exploitation. I stand in support of all migrants across the globe on this year's international migrants day. Let's draw attention to the continued systematic failure to combat migrants worker rights violations and help the migrants live a peaceful and purposeful life. This day has been dedicated to shedding light on the difficulties, rights and contributions of the millions of migrants all over the world. Today, we celebrate all those who have left their homeland for another, to unite with family, for travel, in search of education or work opportunities, to follow love, and let us not forget those seeking safety or who have been forced to move. There are 281million people living outside their country of birth (according to UN report 2020).
Today on lnternational Migrants Day 2021, l call for settled status for workers without visas, to stop the exploitation of people who move far from home to seek decent work in other countries. Escalating injustices are forcing more and more people to relocate. Let's work against injustices so that fewer people have to migrate and create a healthy environment for those who do. It is our collective responsibility to make migration work for the benefit of migrants and countries alike. We owe this to the millions of migrants who, through their courage, vitality and dreams, help make our societies more prosperous, resilient and diverse. Through human history, migration has been a courageous expression of the individual's will to overcome adversity and to live a better life. It is an expression of human aspiration for dignity, safety and a better future.
In conclusion, refugees and migrants faces challenges when accessing health services, they faced limited access, lack interpreters and cultural mediators, and also financial resources. Building a better world starts with supporting peace opportunity and safe migration. On this year's international migrants day 2021, let's stand in solidarity with migrants around the world pursuing a better future.

BRIEF PERSONAL PROFILE OF ENOBONG EKWERE - SOCIAL ACTIVIST/ DEVELOPMENT EXPERT IN NIGERIA.
Comrade Enobong Ekwere is a social influencer, blogger, vlogger, environmental/ human rights activist, peace practitioner, grassroot social mobilizer, SDGs advocate and a global citizen. Enobong Ekwere also have vast knowledge and professional expertise in copy writing, content creation, online and offline media campaigning. He is the program manager of children and young people living for peace (CYPLP), an organic, volunteer of experts, youth focused and a think-tank non-governmental organization based in Kaduna state, Nigeria. A Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate of Public Administration (Upper Credit) from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria. Enobong Ekwere holds a proficiency certificate in management from the Nigerian Institute of Management, Chartered (NIM) Lagos, Nigeria. He is also a graduate member of the institute (Associate member in view). He works with young people in local communities across Nigeria localizing the sustainable development goals (SDGs) (SDG16+ SDG4 and SDG5 in particular) and positive peace frameworks in Nigeria, accelerating action online and offline, engaging duty bearers and policy makers to be accountable for it's implementation by 2030. He is a strong advocate of peace, good governance and democracy, accountability in government, freedom of information, freedom of expression, access to information, free press, social justice and social inclusion. As a youth advocate and a global leader who loves to see social reforms in the society, he uses his personalized blog to write compelling stories on developmental and topical issues on national and global concern that shapes and transform people's lives and impact the larger society for knowledge transfer and lifelong learning. He engages in community service and volunteerism, community outreach, social mobilization and advocacy tours to hard to reach local communities in Nigeria advocating and advancing the cause of the SDGs (SDG16+ SDG4 and SDG5 in particular) so that no community and youth in Kaduna state and Nigeria at large would be left behind.
