World Mental Health Day is marked every year on October 10, to raise awareness about mental health around the world and to mobilize efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues. Every year since 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) has organized a global campaign for World Mental Health Day. The World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) announced the theme for World Mental Health Day 2022, which is: "Make mental health for all global priority". World Mental Health Day is an international day for global education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. Let's us all acknowledge the importance of mental health for everyone.
One of the most overlooked facets of public health is mental health. According to the world health organization (WHO), Statistics shows that a person commits suicide every 40 seconds, 3 million people die each year from alcohol related causes, and almost 1bilion people live with a mental illness and mental health disorder. 1 in 6 working age adult live with a mental disorder. Despite the magnitude of mental ill health, relatively few people around the world have access to quality mental health services. Have in mind that your mental wellness comes first and your happiness is really important.
THE WARNING SIGNS DISPLAYED BY MENTAL HEALTH VICTIMS.
Some of the warning signs exhibited by people with suicidal thoughts and behaviours are listed below;
1. Severe mood changes
2. Social withdrawal
3. Expressing thoughts or plans about ending their life.
4. Saying goodbye to close family and friends.
5. Saying things like "No one will miss me when I'm gone.
6. Giving out valued possessions.
Many people think about suicide at some point in their lives. Suicidal thoughts and behaviours are signs of severe emotional distress, not weakness. It's OK to ask someone if they are thinking about suicide. It is possible to get better. Depression can happen to anyone, it is not a sign of weakness. If someone have depression, here are some things that can help such individual to overcome this challenge, these are;
1. Talk to someone you trust about how you feel.
2. Seek professional help from a mental health therapist.
3. Try to keep up with activities that you normally enjoy.
4. Stay connected with friends and family.
5. Stick to regular eating and sleeping habits.
6.Try to focus on the positive.
7. And lastly, remember don't be afraid to seek help. With the right support, you can get better.
Also remember, if you're worried about someone, talk to them. Listen with an open mind and offer your support.
