World Diabetes Day was launched in 1991 by the lnternational Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Heath Organization (WHO) in response to the rapid rise of diabetes around the world. The day is set aside to raise awareness of the growing burden of this disease, and strategies to prevent and manage the threat. World Diabetes Day became an official UN day in 2006. In 2007 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution (A/RES/61/225) designating 14th November each year as World Diabetes Day. The theme for this year World Diabetes Day 2022 is: "Access to diabetes care".
