World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16th to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. But it took 34 years before the day was recognized as a world holiday at the 20th Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) conference in November, 1979. The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations designated 16th October as World Food Day. World Food Day is observed annually to highlight the millions of people worldwide who cannot afford a healthy diet and the need for regular access to nutritious food. The primary focus is to tackle global hunger and strive to eradicate hunger across the world. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The theme for this year's World Food Day 2022 is: "Leave No One Behind".
