International Day of Rural Women was established by the United Nations General Assembly in it's resolution (A/RES/ 62/136) on 18th December, 2007. The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 15th October as the lnternational Day of Rural Women. This international day recognizes the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty. The day provides an opportunity to bring attention to the issues faced by rural women, and to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the national and global economy. The theme for the lnternational Day of Rural Women 2022 is: "Rural women, key for a world free from hunger and poverty". The theme focuses on equality and women's empowerment and wants women to fight against the problems of hunger and malnutrition.
