INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD 2022.

On December 19 2011, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed resolution (A/RES/66/170) and declared October 11 as the lnternational Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. International Day of the Girl Child was first observed on October 11, 2012 by United Nations. This year commemorates the 10th anniversary of the lnternational Day of the Child. The day focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls empowerment and the fulfilment of their rights. The day is celebrated to bring awareness to the global gender inequality, discrimination and violence that girls experience, and the protections needed for a life without violence. The theme for this year's lnternational Day of the Girl Child 2022 is: "Our time is now - our rights, our future".

The girl child needs the support of all for her to achieve her dreams in life. One of the critical factor that hinders girl's self confidence and esteem is the issue of body shaming. We should stop body shaming the girl child and eschew from this habit because 90% of the time, it leads to either depression, disorder, suicide, low self esteem, or anxiety. It's a form of verbal abuse. There are various ways we can help a girl who is facing body shaming, some of these are;

1. Listen to her

2. Remind her of her uniqueness

3. Help her take a break from where the abuse pours

4. Plan activities that take her mind off it.

5. Remind her that God created her this way.

6. Dieting, exercise, etc are good, but ensure it doesn't become obsessive for her.

We should all ensure that we stop body shaming the girl child. It can stop her from reaching her full potential.

THE RISING INSECURITY CHALLENGES IN NIGERIA.

  For over a decade now, Nigeria has been battling with overcoming her insecurity challenges. The Nigerian state has been bedevilled with criminal tendencies ranging from terrorism, trans- national crimes, insurgency, kidnapping and banditry.
