Child Labour Day or World Day Against Child Labour is observed every year on June 12. World Day Against Child Labour has been observed since 2002 when the International Labour Organization (ILO) declared this day as an international day to raise awareness about child labour and also to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it. Every year on June 12, World Day Against Child Labour is celebrated to spread awareness about the practice of hiring minor children for labour. The theme for this year's World Day Against Child Labour 2022 is: "Universal social protection to end child labour". This day is dedicated to inspire action for the prevention of child labour. More than 200million children all over the world are child labourers, which means that they are engaged in employment or any sort of work that interferes with their ability to have a normal childhood and that harms them physically, mentally, socially or morally. All children deserves the right to act their age, to play and to learn, and to receive an education. Let us act now to end child labour and ensure a healthy, normal childhood for all children.
Child labour is an issue of global concern and needs to be addressed. Unlike any other social issue or problem, child labour is of a greater magnitude and requires an effective legal mechanism and social commitment to deal with the situation at hand. Child labour is a curse on the society and humanity in general. Exploitation of children deprives them of their childhood, interferes with their potentials and harms their overall development. Child labour disrupts a child's education, damages their health and exposes them to violence, sexual abuse, and exploitation. The most common types of child labour include; debt bondage, sex trafficking, armed conflict, forced criminal activities, agriculture, mining, factory work, and domestic work. Let's stop child labour as it doesn't just stop education, but also leaves a negative impact on children's mental, physical and emotional health as they grow up. Every child deserves a happy childhood, quality education and a world full of opportunities and possibilities. A child is meant to learn and not to earn. We must all arise and save children by stopping child labour globally.
