INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN CONFLICT 2022.

International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is an international event conducted by the United Nations (UN) on June 19th each year, to raise awareness about conflict- related sexual violence, and an opportunity to shed light on the pervasive issue of conflict- related sexual violence. This day is marked to honour the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and to pay tribute to all those who have courageously devoted their lives to, and lost their lives in standing up for the eradication of these crimes against humanity. The theme for this year's lnternational Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 2022 is: "Prevention as Protection: Enhancing Structural and Operational Prevention of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence".

Conflict- related sexual violence includes; sexual slavery, forced prostitution, rape, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, forced abortion, forced marriage and any other form of sexual violence against women, men, girls or boys that is directly or indirectly linked to a conflict. It also encompasses trafficking in persons if it is committed for the purpose of exploitation or sexual violence in conflict situations. Sexual violence continues to be used as a weapon of war. This must end. Sexual violence in conflict is a threat to our collective security and a stain on humanity. Let us reaffirm our commitment to eliminate the scourge of conflict- related sexual violence and to provide justice to victims.
