Today, the 23rd February 2022 marks the lnternational celebration of the Rotary international. This journey of service to humanity which started on 23rd February, 1905 by Paul Haris in chicago, USA has grown to become a global phenomenon and rotarians all over the world continues to impact lives through service.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve the partial or total removal of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It most often involves the removal of girls and women external genitalia, and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights, the health and integrity of girls and women. Girls who undergo female genital mutilation face short term complications such as severe pain, shock, excessive bleeding, infections and difficulty in passing urine as well as long term consequences for their sexual and reproductive health and mental health. Long term female genital mutilation complications leads to physical and psychological consequences. Medical complications include; urinary problems, vaginal problems, menstrual problems, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, depression, anxiety, painful intercourse, obsteric complication, painful labour, severe pain, prolonged bleeding, infection, infertility and even death.
