" THE GET RICH QUICK SYNDROME ".

The news of four young teenagers who killed a young teenage girl who happens to be one of their friend's girlfriend for ritual purposes went viral in the news and in the social media space. 16 year old Sofiat Pelumi Kehinde was gruesomely murdered and beheaded for money rituals by his boyfriend, Mustakeem Balogun 20 in conspiracy with three of his friends, Wariz Oladehinde 17, Abdul Gafar Lukman 19, and Soliu Majekodumi 18 in Oke - Aregba area of Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria. The ages of the boys ranges from 17years to 20years. The germane question is, what would have pushed these young teenage boys who at their ages supposed to be in their final year in the high school and be busying with their studies to think of making money and becoming so rich and famous at their age? The high level of moral decadence in our country today plays a pivotal role in shaping the thinking of young people in Nigeria. The negative influence of the social media is another critical factor that deceives young people with fake and make-believe lifestyles that they see people portraying using the social media space to flaunt their flamboyant and ostentatious living. The societal pressure to be equal with their mates and measure up with their contemporaries also pushes young people to indulge in negative tendencies to make it at all cost in life.  The larger society generally celebrates wealth to the detriment of hardwork. Dont get me wrong, iam not against geniune source of wealth, but frowns at ill-gotten wealth and get rich quick syndrome. Hardwork and uprightness in character and a good name has been relegated to the background while money and wealth has been exhaulted to high heavens no matter the source. The cankerworm of ill-gotten wealth has eaten up deep into the social fabrics of our society and cautions have been thrown into the wind. The high rate of corruption, misgovernance and maladministration in high places and the rots in public service, governmental circles and in corporate organizations which cuts across every social strata of our business dealings as a nation leaves no one in doubt that a whole lot of things has gone wrong in our political system.

THE FOUR SUSPECTED TEENAGE RITUAL KILLERS.

The case of these four young teenage ritual killers is one too many cases of ritual killings in Nigeria. Are we as a people and as a nation fold our hands and watch this great evil consume us all? We have to make an effort and take drastic steps as a nation to curb this menace before it consume us all. Our lives are in danger, no one is safe anymore. The evil of ritual killings in Nigeria has risen to a dimension that calls for serious concern. There has been series of missing persons all over the country and at times when the missing persons are found, it is usually with missing vital organs and cases like this is a pointer to the threat of ritual killings to the people of Nigeria.
