The United Nations General Assembly designated 31st October by it's resolution A/RES/ 68/239 as World Cities Day. The day is expected greatly promote the international community's interest in global urbanization, push forward co-operation among countries in meeting opportunities, addressing challenges of urbanization and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world. World Cities Day aligns with the United Nations sustainable development goal 11, sustainable cities and communities, which deals with urban development sustainably. World Cities Day was first celebrated in 2014 and has been observed every year. The day brings to light the inequalities within the biggest cities in the world and pushes for greater social inclusion, including equality and access to services and opportunities.
